Benchmark and TurnKey's capabilities and experience encompass every aspect of solid waste management, from initial siting through post-closure monitoring. We also provide consulting services to municipalities wishing to optimize in-house solid waste facilities and operation or to evaluate contract waste management services. Example services our engineers have performed include: environmental impact studies; new landfill siting, permitting and design; landfill operations assistance (air space optimization, alternative cover evaluation, beneficial use determinations); permitting, design, and construction of landfill expansions, leachate and gas collection/conveyance/treatment systems; transfer stations and landfill closures; energy recovery evaluation; post-closure recreational use evaluations and monitoring; tipping, collection, and user fee analyses.

Benchmark is currently assisting Modern Landfill with the permitting of a 122-acre lateral expansion at it’s sanitary landfill in Model City, NY. The project follows successful revisions to the Town Landfill Law and Host Community Benefits Package. Benchmark assisted in the development of computer-enhanced video comparing the visual impact of the currently permitted landfill with the proposed expanded site. The video was paramount in addressing aesthetic concerns and securing community approval of the project.

Solid waste transfer station design requires understanding more than just the structural and mechanical needs of the facility. Existing and future collection operations, equipment and scheduling must also be taken into consideration to assure a smooth flow of traffic through the station. Benchmark and TurnKey are currently drawing from our staff's prior experience in managing municipal solid waste collection services to assist in planning and designing a transfer station in Steuben County, NY.
