Benchmark and TurnKey can facilitate property reuse through services ranging from facility investigation and design to providing turnkey decontamination and decommission of equipment and structures. Our engineers have developed decontamination procedures for facilities impacted by chemicals, PCBs, heavy metals, and petroleum products. Demolition plans have been prepared and implemented for facilities requiring specialized decommissioning or removals. We offer a design-build approach to simplify and expedite the process.

Benchmark assisted the City of Buffalo to quickly address leaking PCB electrical equipment were discovered in a basement storage room of the Broadway Garage. Wipe samples were collected to verify the impacted areas. Health & Safety and Decontamination Plans were developed to protect workers performing the cleanup and city employees. HEPA dry vacuuming, specialized cleaning agents, and high pressure sprayers were used to clean impacted surfaces and equipment. The picture at the left shows final coating of the floor once the area was completely decontaminated.

At this 170,000sf inactive stainless steel wire plant, Benchmark performed a Supplemental RCRA Facility Investigation to assess areas potentially impacted for hazardous wastes and substances including: bulk storage tanks and containment areas for wire drawing oils; container storage areas and miscellaneous drums; impacted flooring, walls and roofing materials; pickling and heat treating process residuals; and PCB transformer rooms. A facility decontamination and demolition work plan was also developed.
